Company Outline

NIC Instruments specialises in the design and manufacture of Bomb Disposal Equipment.

Overall Purpose of Job

This role will have to supervise and coordinate the work of a crew of workers in the Assembly Shop. Primarily concerned with seeing that the workers under this role do their job skilfully and efficiently, and that assigned work progresses on schedule. This role will deal with the routing of material and equipment, and with the laying out of the more difficult areas of the job. The work requires quick, clear thinking and quick onsite decisions. The candidate should have a broad working knowledge of manufacturing; must be able to read and visualise objects from drawings; and should have an eye for precise detail and H&S.

This will be an active role focused on ensuring the smooth day to day running of the Assembly Department and supporting other departments.

It will also be part of this role to maintain an environment of continuous improvement and working practices.

Main Duties

Strategy

Ability to implement and maintain an effective production strategy, to make themselves aware of the product quality requirements, consulting samples if available prior to any inspection. Ensure a clean and effective work area is maintained at all times. Record results on relevant forms.

Operational

  1. Carry out assembly of low volume complex electromechanical assemblies
  2. Support existing assembly staff with their daily routines
  3. Carry out Quality Control ChecksCarry out assembly of low volume mechanical assemblies
  4. Develop new assembly techniques
  5. Jigs and fixtures
    1. As part of 1st off, review the job’s tooling
      1. Ensure tooling is suitable for the task
      2. Scrap obsolete tooling
      3. Design new tooling where required
    2. All tooling to be marked
      1. Ensure tooling when marked is stored in the correct area according to the Company’s 5S process
      2. Review all tooling annually
  6. Work Instructions
    1. Work from work instructions
    2. Review existing work instructions
    3. Write work instructions
  7. Assist with assembly shop workload planning
  8. Support R&D Department when required
  9. NIC procedures and policeis
    1. To be followed religiously

In addition, the successful candidate may be asked to implement effective training at all levels of the production team as per training plan.

Experience

  • The successful applicant will have considerable experience within an engineering and manufacturing environment including experience in using forms of manual inspection equipment
  • Some experience in planning and scheduling in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications

  • GCSE pass grade for English and Maths or equivalent qualification
  • An HNC/HND or higher in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent would be desirable.
